No One Asked Us is a study of how African-Americans and Latinos are underrepresented on local boards and commissions, both of which play a key role in shaping community life. Drawing upon the author?s fieldwork in several Connecticut communities, this book documents how individual and institutional barriers, including racism, work to limit minority representation in civic affairs. It provides strategies to increase the political and civic participation of African Americans and Latinos.
About the Author
Joyce Hamilton Henry was Executive Director of DemocracyWorks, a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization which was committed to making the democratic process more inclusive. She has a Ph.D. in Social Policy from Brandeis University.
